2015: Treasures of the World - North America - Turquoise
Treasures of the World - North America 2015 1oz Silver Proof Locket Coin with Turquoise.
The third release in this stunning annual program features a disc of turquoise encased in a transparent locket.
Turquoise is a gemstone prized and admired by civilisations throughout history. Its special significance in Egyptian, Persian and Aztec cultures saw it fashioned into a remarkable array of striking jewellery, decorative mosaics and beautiful ceremonial objects.
Classic turquoise is sky-blue in colour and is generally opaque with a waxy lustre. Turquoise also occurs in hues ranging from blue-green to green, and with black veins that lend unique character to individual pieces.
Struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.
The locket is surrounded with a reverse design representing a Southwestern desert landscape, including a cactus, tumbleweed and vertical rock face. The reverse also incorporates The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark and the inscriptions TREASURES OF THE WORLD and TURQUOISE.
Issued as Australian legal tender, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date and the monetary denomination.
This stunning coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity and is housed in a prestigious display case with a timber lid and illustrated shipper.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 7,500 of these Treasures of the World - North America 2015 1oz Silver Proof Coins containing turquoise.
