Description

This second stamp issue in the Colonial Heritage series focuses on emerging Australian identity in the former colonies.    The stamp designs feature the kangaroo, lyrebird, black swan and southern cross constellation.  The kangaroo and the lyrebird originally featured in the 1888 New South Wales centenary stamps, the first commemorative stamps worldwide; the Black Swan was depicted in most stamps released by Western Australia; and the Southern Cross was an element in several stamps.
